Thomas was born in Coimadai, VIC on the 29th of April 1889 to Thomas Rawlinson and Esther Holt.

Thomas was a Police Constable(2) in the Camperdown district when he enlisted in the AIF, 4th Field Artillery Brigade on the 23rd of September 1915, aged 26.

Shortly before he was due to embark he was admitted to the Base Hospital, then, two days later was transferred to the Alfred Hospital where he died(3) three days later on the 17th of November 1915 - epidemic cerebro spinal meningitis.

He is listed on the Shire of Bacchus Marsh Roll of Honour and the Bacchus Marsh & District Roll of Honour. He is also remembered in the Coimadai Avenue of Honour.

Notes

  1. The details on this plaque are of Taylor Rawlinson who lived in Bundaberg, QLD.
    From 1915 till 1918 the Bacchus Marsh Express continually referred to a T Rawlinson who died of illness.
  2. He joined the Victoria Police in July 1912 and saw duty at Russell Street, Tongala, Mansfield and finally at Camperdown in September 1914. A year later he returned to Russell Street to join the Expeditionary Forces.
