Cyril was born in Bacchus Marsh, VIC in 1895 to George Francis Ramsey - at one time, Shire President/Mayor - and Helen Eliza Northey.

Cyril - popularly known as Frank - was a bank clerk with the Commercial Bank at Rainbow, VIC when he applied to enlist in the AIF on the 8th of October 1916, aged 21 - his enlistment actually dates from the 26th of October. He was allotted to the 8th Reinforcements, 3rd Divisional Ammunition Column in January 1917 and embarked aboard the RMS Osterley in February, disembarking at Plymouth, England in April.

In August 1917 Cyril proceeded overseas to France where he transferred to the 5th Divisional Ammunition Column and then a few weeks later he transferred to the 13th Field Artillery Brigade. During the Battle of Polygon Wood Cyril was killed in action on the 2nd of October - the battle cost 5,770 Australian casualties. He was buried in The Huts Cemetery, Belguim.

He is listed on the Shire of Bacchus Marsh Roll of Honour, the Bacchus Marsh & District Roll of Honour and the Roll of Honour of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Bacchus Marsh.

  1. He enlisted with the 3rd Divisional Ammunition Column but was in the 13th Field Artillery Brigade when he was killed.
