Henry Charles Bottle was born at Bacchus Marsh, VIC, in 1881, to Edward Henry Bottle and Eleanor Unsworth. Henry had a brother, Edward, who is also remembered in the Avenue. Henry married Lucy Harrison in 1910 and they had two children, Alice Ethel and Rupert Henry.

Henry was a farmer in the Wimmera district (Dimboola), VIC, when he enlisted in the AIF at Mildura, VIC, in April 1916, at the age of 35. Initially he was with the 21st Reinforcements, 6th Battalion but when he embarked at Melbourne aboard the HMAT Ulysses in late October he was with the 22nd Reinforcements, 5th Battalion. He disembarked at Plymouth, England, in late December 1916.

In March 1917 he had a brief visit to hospital with bronchitis, but by May had joined the 5th Battalion in France. On the 20th of September 1917, near Ypres, Belgium, whilst the 5th battalion were supporting the Battle of Menin Road, he was killed instantly by an enemy shell. He was buried near to where he fell.

He is listed on the Shire of Bacchus Marsh Roll of Honour. He is also remembered at the Turriff Memorial Wall, Turriff, Vic. and the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belguim.
