Francis (Frank) was born in Bacchus Marsh, VIC in 1897 to David Barton Pigott and Susanah Hanrahan.
Frank was a farmer and gave his address as Bacchus Marsh, VIC when he enlisted in the AIF, 3rd Reinforcements, 21st Battalion on the 15th of July 1915, aged 18 - his parents consent having been given. He embarked aboard the HMAT A68 Anchises in late August, disembarking in Egypt some time later.
In October 1915 Frank joined his unit at Gallipoli. He was admitted to the 5th Field Ambulance in November - diphtheria - and evacuated back to Egypt, rejoining his unit in late December before embarking from Egypt in March 1916.
Frank disembarked at Marseilles, France in late March, 1916. A week later he was absent from Tattoo Roll Call and forfeited 14 days pay. The 21st Battalion participated in the Battle of Pozieres in late July 1916 so he was probably involved. In November Frank was admitted to hospital, suffering from trench feet, rejoining his unit in February 1917 and detached for duty with the 6th Brigade Headquarters as a Military Policeman. In July 1918 Frank was again admitted to hospital - appendicitis. He transferred to the 5th Battalion in October, then to the 24th Battalion in November before returning to England in January 1919 and embarking for home aboard the Trasos Montes in early April, returning to Australia in late May and was discharged from the AIF in July.
Frank died at Heidelberg, VIC in 1973, aged 76.
He is listed on the Shire of Bacchus Marsh Roll of Honour and the Bacchus Marsh & District Roll of Honour.
