Albert(1) was born in 1894 at St Kilda, VIC to Albert Martin(2) and Edith Martha Box(3).

Albert was a slaughterman and gave his address as Melton, VIC when he enlisted in the AIF, 11th Reinforcements, 8th Battalion on the 31st of July 1915, aged 21. He embarked aboard the HMAT A71 Nestor in October, disembarking in Egypt some time later. In February 1916 he transferred to the 6th battalion and embarked from Alexandria in March.

Shortly after disembarking at Marseilles, France at the end of March 1916 Albert was hospitalised with influenza before joining his unit in the field in May. He was promoted to Lance Corporal in July and then to Corporal in August. In late April 1917, Albert was killed in action. He was buried in the field, NNW of Lagnicourt and 7 miles NNE of Albert and later re-interred at Queant Road Cemetery, Buissy

He is listed on the Shire of Bacchus Marsh Roll of Honour and the Bacchus Marsh & District Roll of Honour. He is also remembered at the Melton War Memorial.
