Edwin was born cir1890 in Mawdesley, Lancashire, England.

Edwin enlisted at Melbourne, in the AIF, 6^th Battalion, 14^th Reinforcements, on the 4^th of September 1915, aged 25. He embarked aboard the HMAT A32 Themistocles at the end of January 1916 and after a brief stopover in Egypt in late February Edwin arrived in France in April and joined the 6^th Battalion in the field, in June 1916.

Edwin suffered a gunshot wound to the head and shoulder during one of the assaults on Mouquet Farm and was admitted to the 13^th Field Ambulance in August, but the next day he died of his wounds at No. 3 Casualty Clearing Station on the 18^th of August 1916. He is buried at Puchevillers British Cemetery, France.

He is listed on the Shire of Bacchus Marsh Roll of Honour and the Bacchus Marsh & District Roll of Honour.
