Henry Campbell was born at Bacchus Marsh, VIC, in 1898, to Henry George Campbell and Esther Vennell. Henry had two brothers, Gordon and William, who are also remembered in the Avenue.

Henry lived at Bacchus Marsh, VIC and worked in the Postal Department as a telephone mechanic⁽⁵⁾ when he enlisted on the 24^th of July 1915 in the AIF at the age of 22. Previously he had served with the 3^rd Battalion, A Company, Public School for two years and the Victorian Scottish Regiment for 18 months (probably cadet units). In November he embarked aboard the HMAT A73 Commonwealth with the 24^th Battalion, 6^th Reinforcements.

After disembarking in Egypt, Henry transferred to the 8^th Battalion, C company in late February 1916 before being promoted to temporary Sergeant then Sergeant. Whilst in Egypt he spent some time exploring the pyramids⁽⁴⁾. At the end of March he embarked at Alexandria, Egypt to join the BEF, disembarking at Marseilles, France five days later.

During the Battle of Pozieres, Henry was killed in action on the 28^th of July 1916, nearly one year to the day after he enlisted. Henry is also remembered at the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France.

He is listed on the Shire of Bacchus Marsh Roll of Honour, the Bacchus Marsh & District Roll of Honour, the S^t. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Roll of Honor and the Postmaster General's Department, Victoria 1 and Victoria 2 Rolls of Honour. He is also remembered in the Coimadai Avenue of Honour and the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France.

Service number is 3058 not 3088, probably a typing error.
He embarked with the 6^th Reinforcements of the 24^th Battalion but transferred to the 8^th Battalion, C Company.
According to his service records he was killed on the 28/7/1916
