Isaac Brunt was born at Colac, VIC, in 1894, to Clare Needham Brunt, who later married Edwin Cooper of Steiglitz, who raised Isaac as his stepson.

Isaac was working as a labourer for the pastoralist, Molesworth Greene, at Greystones, in the Rowsley Valley near Bacchus Marsh, VIC, when he enlisted in the AIF, on the 1st of October 1914, at the age of 21. He embarked aboard the HMAT A38 Ulysses in December with the 14th Battalion and arrived in Egypt at the end of January 1915.

Isaac would have been at ANZAC Cove when the 14th Battalion landed on the 25th of April 1915. In May he suffered from influenza and was hospitalised at Alexandria, Egypt, for a month before returning to Gallipoli. In July he had a bout of diarrhoea and later suffered a hernia for which he was transferred to hospital in England in August - at this time he also reported he felt pain in the left brest. Later that year he married Gertrude Rance at Kensington, London.

In February 1916 while in England Isaac was knocked down by a tram and was unconscious for two weeks and remained in hospital for six months. At the end of April 1917 he rejoined the 14th Battalion in France but was soon complaining of headaches and giddiness and was again admitted to hospital in England. In November he was again admitted to hospital with a tumour of the left breast - growth started after being knocked down by a tram.

Isaac returned to Australia in July 1918 and was given a Welcome Home at the Rowsley Hall. He was discharged from the AIF in August, medically unfit - Mastitis. His wife joined him in Australia in October and they settled at Beeac, VIC just north of Colac.

Isaac died at Colac, VIC in 1929(1), aged 35 - probably due to the tumour.

He is listed on the Shire of Bacchus Marsh Roll of Honour, the Bacchus Marsh & District Roll of Honour, the Moorabool Presbyterian Church Honour Roll, Batesford and the Steiglitz State School Roll of Honor, Steiglitz.
