Born in Melbourne - probably Bacchus Marsh(1) - on the 20th of December 1880 to John Condon(2) and Catherine Wainwright.

Henry was working as a painter in Auckland, New Zealand, when he enlisted in the NZEF, Auckland Infantry Battalion, on the 20th of August 1914 - just after war was declared - aged 34. Previously he had been in the Whangarei Rifle Volunteers. He embarked from New Zealand in October aboard the HMNZT 12 Waimana, disembarking in Suez, Egypt in December.

On the 25th of April 1915 Henry landed at Gallipoli as part of the New Zealand and Australian Division, 1st New Zealand Infantry Brigade, only to receive a gunshot wound to the head.

He was admitted to hospital in Cairo, Egypt, at the beginning of May before embarking for New Zealand in August aboard the Tahiti. He arrived back in New Zealand in August and was granted two months leave before being discharged from the NZEF in June 1916.(4)

He moved back to Australia in 1916-17(4). Henry died in Footscray, VIC, in 1948, aged 67.

He is listed on the Shire of Bacchus Marsh Roll of Honour and the Bacchus Marsh & District Roll of Honour.
