Edwin was born cir1890 in Mawdesley, Lancashire, England.

Edwin enlisted at Melbourne, in the AIF, 6th Battalion, 14th Reinforcements, on the 4th of September 1915, aged 25. He embarked aboard the HMAT A32 Themistocles at the end of January 1916 and after a brief stopover in Egypt in late February Edwin arrived in France in April and joined the 6th Battalion in the field, in June 1916.

Edwin suffered a gunshot wound to the head and shoulder during one of the assaults on Mouquet Farm and was admitted to the 13th Field Ambulance in August, but the next day he died of his wounds at No. 3 Casualty Clearing Station on the 18th of August 1916. He is buried at Puchevillers British Cemetery, France.

He is listed on the Shire of Bacchus Marsh Roll of Honour and the Bacchus Marsh & District Roll of Honour.
